When the roller drill bit works at the bottom of the well, the overall rotation of the drill bit around the axis of the drill bit is called revolution, and the rolling of the three rollers at the bottom of the well according to their own axes is called rotation. The drilling pressure borne by the drill bit acts on the rock through the teeth, causing the rock to break (crushing effect).

During the rolling process, the roller cone alternately contacts the bottom of the well with single or double teeth, and the center position of the roller cone fluctuates, causing longitudinal vibration of the drill bit. This longitudinal vibration continuously compresses and stretches the drill string, and the lower drill string converts this periodic elastic deformation into an impact force on the formation through teeth to break the rock. This impact and crushing effect is the main way for roller bits to break rocks. ‌
